Baby Caillou – My Daddy

Caillou, My Daddy introduces and identifies Caillou's father. The text and illustrations show Daddy playing with Caillou, making him laugh, and lifting him up high. Daddy watches Caillou as he climbs and explores his surroundings. Daddy comforts Caillou and calls him “my sweet Caillou”.

A father's role in a child's life differs from and complements the mother's. A father's presence is important; his affection and his more boisterous way of playing encourage a baby to become aware of his body and to explore his surroundings.

“Every baby needs someone to tell him what he is about to learn before he even experiences it. In this way he gradually acquires the words he needs to interpret his environment.”*
