Caillou - It's me!

As they answer the questions in the text, children will enjoy identifying and naming the parts of Caillou's body: "Under Caillou's hat are . . . Caillou's ears and Caillou's eyes!"

The book also depicts Caillou's nose and mouth, hidden behind his hand, as well as his toes and feet inside his slippers. In addition, under his pajamas they discover his tummy and bellybutton.

Children will delight in applying their newfound knowledge to their own bodies and to those of their parents!

By means of objects hidden behind flaps, the books gradually introduce the concepts of "in", "under", and "behind."

Because of their familiarity, the parts of the body are among the very first things a child conceptualizes. At first, the baby realizes that he can control this "thing" that is his hand. After a while, he realizes that this hand belongs to him. He further realizes that there are others around him who also have hands, feet, and toes.

At this stage of his development, the child realizes that he is both similar to and different from those around him. This is an extraordinary discovery and it is not surprising that children delight in comparing their own bodies to those of their mothers and fathers. His discovery allows the child to enter into the world and become aware of his own unique identity. His nose and his bellybutton are the first parts of "himself" that he will conceptualize.
